announcing two new open source projects

February 14th, 2004

We are actively working to make two of our internal software development initiatives available as open source software. Peer review and documentation projects have begun on Operon, a powerful relationship management database and ezmeister, a collection of ezmlm extensions. Our website now includes a new open source tools section that highlights these projects and other open source tools available to hosting customers.

Many hosting providers make use of free software because it cuts costs and lets them set low prices in a challenging market. Most hosting providers wouldn't dream of contributing their proprietary hosting application to the community because the time spent supporting these efforts detract from the bottom line, and because providing their proprietary tools gives their customers the choice to use a different provider.

At pajunas interactive, we have always been strong supporters and avocates of open-source software, and the last reason we would cite is cost. Through speaking engagements, supporting local groups like tcphp.org, and committing to building our hosting environment by leveraging the best open source software, we have maintained a full commitment to open-source development. Because our values and service offerings have attracted some of the most loyal customers out there, we have nothing to fear from giving customers a choice when considering hosting providers.

This company's very mission is to use hosting proceeds to encourage growth and education, not to get rich and squelch the competition. Our continued success is proof that you can run a profitable business with strong values and support for open source initiatives while keeping costs low.
