It is patently impossible to offer "unlimited" anything, and our customers are smart enough not to be fooled by such claims.
There is always a limit, and even the internet itself is finite. If you look closely at a hosting provider making these claims, you will find that they are doing one of two things:
- Burying their terms in fine print: If you look closely in the terms and conditions, you may see vague information such as "we reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if we determine that it is using too many resources." Or they might go on to define "Unlimited" as any amount up to a certain number, which is just plain dishonest.
- Making a promise they can't keep: If the host is making an "unlimited" claim without any restrictions, they are not doing a very good job of capacity planning. Terms like this usually attract resource-intensive sites, and it's only a matter of time before your site suffers outages or slow performance as a result of the mismanagement.
Claims of "unlimited" resources are usually marketing tactics to lure non-technical people who do not have the time or inclination to determine their site's actual needs. Too often, these users get burned by the consequences of choosing such a provider.
